The dissident Right frequently invokes tradition as a cure for our ills. Tradition is esteemed as a panacea. A one word solution. The only solution we need. The way forward is said to be backward. Just hit the rewind button to get to a more favorable time and copy that model in the present. I am going to have to dissent from the dissidents on this point. In order to survive Dixie must adapt. Time and history only march in one direction whether we like it or not. There is one reason alone why we have consistently lost to the Left: Failure to adapt and innovate fast enough. It is the mentality that must be broken because we just can’t sustain many more such losses. If nostalgia is one hand, then compelling forward-vision is the other. If tradition is one glove, then innovation and adaptation is the other. Let us suppose an ongoing war between two gods. One named Evol, the other Stasis. Evol is the lesser god, but he has dreams of ruling the land. He is quite wicked and continually continually contrives new schemes, new disguises and even new weapons. You never know what he is going to come up with next. Stasis is of utmost moral virtue, and is indeed the greater god. His predictable strategy is to stand his ground and fight, but only if he must fight, lest someone doubt his virtue. He doesn’t really have any plans, other than to stand his ground whenever Evol attacks, and he always stands his ground the exact same way every time, just the way his grandfather did against Evol’s grandfather. He has resolved to never budge and inch. Why would he change a thing, since he is right in the first place? Whenever Evol goes away for a little while, Stasis likes to play his banjo and relax. Unfortunately, Stasis drowned when the glaciers melted and sea levels rose. He stood his ground honorably to the very end though. Evol then ravaged Stasis’ wife, ate Stasis’ children and now Evol’s descendants rule the land. Every extant species on this planet is here for one reason: It evolved fast enough to survive. Every extinct species that once existed on this planet is extinct for one reason: It did not evolve fast enough to survive. The fossil record tells us “adapt or perish.” The business world tells us “innovate or die.” Likewise the lessons of war tell us that we must out-innovate and out-adapt our enemies. What will Dixie do? Dixie must innovate, adapt and evolve if She is going to last much longer. We simply do not live in the conditions our forbears lived under and cannot rely on the same methods. But methods originate in our thinking. It is our thinking that must adapt. We must embrace innovation and seek a lot of next big “things” or we will be trampled by those who do. This is not a problem for Yankeedom. Nobody ever accused them of lacking ingenuity, being stuck in the past or lacking utopian visions. There is a reason Yankeedom was more industralized, and had an edge over us in the Abolitionist War. There is a reason why they had more railroads, more factories, more inventions, more guns. It is the same reason today why Big Tech is overwhelmingly Leftwing. There is a reason why the Left dominates the film industry. There is a reason why MIT is developing sophisticated robots, which will eventually be outfitted with guns to form a robot army to fight us with, while Dixie is... [crickets]. As a race they simply have a creative drive and make good use of it. It seems Dixie lacks this creative drive and, outside of music, She seems to even be hostile to creativity. I believe that is one of our biggest problems today. The only way to defeat ones enemies is to out-evolve them, and Dixie has a long track record of failing miserably at that task. We must do things differently from what we have traditionally done and that requires that we first think differently from what we have already thought. We must learn to crave and seek innovation, which begins with innovations of thought (aka paradigm shifts). This does not mean all traditions are bad and it does not mean we need to hop on the Insane Train of Abolition, Miscegenation, Feminism, Globohomo, etc. It means we need to have our own progressive visions. Nostalgia is not power. Vision is power, and we perish for the lack of it. It means we need to look to novel solutions which spring from novel ways of thinking, being open minded, thinking outside the box, not being immediately hostile to every new idea. We should instead treasure new ideas and examine them for merit and utility. I personally think the biggest innovations we need are low-tech. I think we need innovations in our thinking and language most of all. Almost everything else just flows naturally from there anyway. This essay started out with a pessimistic tone with yanks and the Left in general having a natural edge over us due to population genetics alone. But I believe there is a catch-22 that gives us the advantage in the end if we can just adapt our thinking enough. It looks to me like creativity and kookiness go hand in hand, as if perhaps the tolerance for cognitive dissonance is somehow linked (probably influenced by the same genes) to tendencies toward creativity and innovation. We see it in population differences between us and yanks, and the momentary suspension of critical thinking is the first rule for having a brainstorm session for ideas. We see that creativity is sometimes linked to psychoactive drug use. If we are naturally conservative, and naturally critical of new ideas, then we are less prone to some of the delusions rampant among the Left. If we can understand the value of progressive vision, innovation and adaptation, and discipline ourselves to be open, even to seek diligently and cultivate them, then we can have the best of both faculties. We can have creativity without kookery, innovation without insanity. The John Browns of the world cannot do that. I’m going to challenge readers here to suggest answers to some questions most Dixians won’t ask but should. I look forward to reading your replies. 1) What is a good, progressive vision for Dixie’s future? 2) Suppose an angel told you Dixie would have to last another thousand years under harsh occupation before getting a chance to become sovereign. What would be your strategy to help Dixie last that long? 3) What are some traditions, habits or thinking that are holding us back? 4) What are some traditions, habits or thinking that we should probably keep? 5) What are some lapsed traditions, habits or thinking that we should revive? 6) What are some innovations that may prove helpful? 7) What are some innovations we should reject? 8) How else can we out-evolve our enemies?

A major advantage of the Left is their progressive vision. The Conservative non-movement by contrast has no progressive vision. Resisting any and all forms of progress is a recipe for failure and a sure fire way to join the dinosaurs. Let’s dwell on that for clarity sake. The reason most of the dinosaurs are extinct today is because they were too Conservative. They failed to change to meet their changing environment. They went extinct because they resisted progress in a changing world. They simply did not adapt, or at least not fast enough. I’ve had some time on my hands for the past year and have been binge reading books on leadership. There are a few reappearing messages that relate to what I am trying to say with this article.
I can confidently report that number 3 is false in the case of Dixie. Dixie has many monuments to men who simply resisted change and took a 100% defensive position. Oh, they took offensive positions in some battles, but on the political and cultural level they only took a defensive position. They simply attempted to cling to what they had. That was a critical flaw and I suspect it is the main reason Dixie lost and has been losing up until the present day. Ever since Antebellum times (and probably long before that) we have been plugging dams with our fingers when we should have been building hydroelectric power stations. As long as our dream for the future is to simply hang onto what we have or to bargain for smaller concessions, we are almost guaranteed to lose. One aberration from Dixie’s history of Conservatism was Sir William Berkeley, governor of Virginia, who accomplished one of the greatest patriotic feats in history with an organized effort to recruit as many “second sons of nobility” as he could to the Virginia colony. Rather than taking advantage of the opportunity to be an uncontested big shot among plebs, he raked in disaffected members of the upper classes after the English Civil War to create an aristocracy for the colony. There is no doubt that he had a vision of Ascendancy for Virginia. It had a lot to do with timing and opportunity, but based on results rather than sacrifice, we owe much more to Sir Berkeley than we do to Lee or Forrest. Berkeley and his ascendant vision created Dixie. Like Berkeley, we need a progressive mentality. Unfortunately our enemy has pretty much monopolized that word. Let’s just say the progress that I am talking about is quite different from Cenk Uygur’s version of progress. That’s why I am proposing the term Ascendancy, or more specifically, Dixian Ascendancy (not Conservatism, traditionalism or Reactionism) as the ideological antidote for Progressivism. Ascendancy does not simply stand his ground with a tough guy posture. Ascendancy is busy building things. Ascendancy does not simply try to hang on for one more generation or correct one more Leftist lie. Dixian Ascendancy, like Progressivism takes the initiative with a positive vision. Let me suggest a possible vision of Dixian Ascendancy:
Not one of these things requires a single politician, a single vote or a single bill to pass, a single billionaire donor or any kind of special permission from AntiDixie. What they require is for motivated, visionary Dixians to work together for things that cannot be easily taken over or destroyed by AntiDixie. We don’t need to be granted independence first. The path of Ascendancy is for us to be our own independence. I suppose I am a bit biased but the recent action of NCSU to remove Dixie from their anthem reaffirms to me the value in the name Dixie. This is part of a recent trend. First, Dolly Parton decided to drop the Dixie from Dixie Stampede. Then the Dixie Chicks decided to rename as The Chicks. It seems the Lefties have some aversion to the name Dixie. This is particularly revealing in the case of NCSU who replaced "Dixie" with "Southern." Why do they choke on Dixie, but swallow Southern just fine? I think it is because they know that Dixie is our word, that it has life in it, that Dixie has some potency that the South does not. The South is a territorial possession of the United States, but Dixie is a country, a culture and a people. They killed the Confederacy, leaving a raped and mutilated corpse called The South and a pristine ghost called Dixie. Dixie never got “reconstructed” after the Second American Revolution (ARII) - only the South did. Dixie is yet unslain, unravaged, unconquered and unseduced and they know it. Dixie is everything that the South is not. The South is defeated, humiliated and broken. But Dixie is unbroken. She holds her chin up and has that look in her eye that gloats with inward assurance of her own dignity and superiority. Unfit men “reject” her because they cannot have her. At the time of this writing I also see a politically motivated social media surge in spelling Kiev as Kyiv in support of Ukraine. The power of those two letters is incalculable, just like where to put the apostrophe when you make United States possessive ("United State’s" vs "United States’"). The symbolic value of where to put that small mark is no small matter. This surrender of the word Dixie is quite attractive to me and I hope it is attractive to everyone else here. I am not aware of any other time when our enemies surrendered a word to us. The battle over language, the power to define what a word means and use it as you will, is just as real as Gettysburg. The enemy has surrendered this turf rather than contest it. I hope every Leftist institution follows suit. While they are tightening their grip on failing institutions, they simultaneously surrender to us the name Dixie. The South is conquered but Dixie is not. Let us make the most of it. |
AuthorLong Leaf’s family has lived in Eastern NC since colonial times. Now he witnesses another colonization that he’s not too happy about. After seeing and hearing so much evil, he had to speak. His only qualification is his motivation. Long Leaf only pawn in game of strife. Archives |
