So President Biden signed the COVID (Care Of Very Important Donors) Act, which, while it does almost nothing for pandemic related problems, goes a long way towards rewarding states which are profligate in their spending habits. Another $1,900,000,000,000 dollar can, kicked down the road. I like to put the number down, so you can see it in all its obscenity. I think they spent something like - wait for it - one billion, eighty-five million, seven-hundred thousand plus ounces of gold. That’s about ⅙ of all the gold which has been mined. The trouble is, they don’t have a mine, nor even a fraction of that in Fort Knox. What they do have is a nifty printing press. Well, they used to. Why be so primitive when you can create money out of thin air. All it takes is a few keystrokes and some electrons. Quantitative easing, or payoffs to those in positions of wealth and power, if you look at it from our point of view. It is hard to blame President Biden for all of this. He is only doing what his handlers tell him. He is a tired old man, who has little to show for decades in government ‘service’ save a minor part in the graft and corruption and a presidential non-campaign. Often called the Presidential Protection Plan, it kept him out of site and away from a microphone until after he was “elected.” The Founding Fathers warned us about such shenanigans (well, technically they didn’t warn us about computers) But they knew the kind of men who manipulate paper and numbers, a little like the fellow at the carnival, but without the skilled hands. They just bungle the numbers together, and nobody asks questions. It’s really quite fascinating, and profitable if you are on the inside. Not only did the Founders predict what could happen if we were not vigilant, but the Bible has warnings, too….way back in the very old days, in Exodus: You shalt not steal. You shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor. (there go the politicians) You shalt not covet …. Anything that is your neighbor’s. There’s also something about adultery, but I’ve already mentioned politicians. Meanwhile, we are still paying people not to work, because their particular job probably disappeared. They don’t have the integrity to work with their hands at some useful enterprise. I pass by dozens of help wanted signs, but apparently people now prefer a government handout to work. ’m old enough that I remember when people would have been embarrassed to take money when they could work, even if they didn’t make as much or had to work a second job to make ends meet. It’s the Biblical view of man’s existence. Man was created to worship God, and is expected to work in order to eat. With declining church attendance, I guess much of America fails on both points. A couple of generations ago, in the South, we would see a different story being played out. Hard times meant people pulled together, as a community. People knew their neighbor, and no one went without. No such luck today. Everyone is too busy playing video games and pulling through the drive-thru for a nutritious and inexpensive meal. Oooops, got the last half of that statement wrong. But it doesn’t matter, I’m sure they were too busy looking at their cell phone to notice. Society and our culture are decaying while the big spenders, bureaucrats and media insulate themselves from the mayhem they have wrought. Our answer must be to cling to our traditions and work harder to save what is left. We know the true history, and we know that our country was founded by good men. Good men, however flawed they were, gave us timeless principles which can lead us back. Right now we have this problem, back out on the road. We have a big problem with that new can they are kicking down the road (our children will have a bigger problem with it). It is part and parcel of all these maladies which corrupt our rapidly declining civilization. And the problem is not so much that new can in the road, though it is worrisome, but the 29,000,000,000,000 cans just round the bend. There is a deposit due on every one of them.
