Featured Comment by William Smith on Will We Learn the Lessons of Afghanistan? by Boyd Cathey
I confess to mixed and passionate feelings about all this, Doc! I was an Army Chaplain for a SOF unit in the early days of OIF, and I actually believed the rhetoric about "fighting them over there so we don't fight them over here"! I actually believed what we were doing was indeed helping to ultimately defend kith and kin!

How blind I was, for the truth, as they say, was hidden in plain sight! My Soldiers were many of the ones who went in first back in '01, prior to my time as their Chaplain, and whooped-up on the Taliban for 9/11. That was fine, but then, as you well know, the mission changed to Neo-clown nation-building. Iraq, then, was an extension of that, and, well, you know what happened there as well.

The building realization of truth, and burgeoning understanding of my fundamental conservatism, especially as a Southerner, came in the years after I redeployed, and it wasn't at all comfortable, I can tell you! Some of my Soldiers were killed, and I've done my share of casualty notifications as well as memorial services and funerals. The LORD is gracious, and in His sovereignty He has undoubtedly used the love and devotion that Soldiers develop who are in combat together; "bad guys" were also doubtless dispatched to judgement! But still, what did any of us do it all for?!!? That question has haunted me since Iraq, and I know it haunts friends and brothers who served in Afghanistan! We're angry and hurt beyond the Beyond at the betrayal on so many levels!

Among the many "Lessons Learned " for me is that military service to this corrupt, Yankee Empire is in no way acceptable! Please, God, that we wake up to this fact! Saddam Hussein was bad, but we as Christians ought to know that the region has had cruel and ruthless rulers since almost the beginning of time! Just read your Bible! And as bad as Islam indeed is, the average Afghani or Iraqi, didn't want to invade my home and harm me and mine! But the US government, as you know, has for a long time now has operated under the policy of "invade the world, invite the world". Just look at what they've brought or allowed in, and are now continuing to do so on our southern border! And now we're going to likely fly them in via this evacuation/airlift!

The paradigm has shifted. The US government and their proxies have as good as ID'd me and mine as enemies, and care nothing for any rule of Law. I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic (BTW, is that the Constitution that defends the practice of murdering babies in their tens of millions, as well as promotes LGBTQ+, and seeks to export same overseas?) We are nothing but cash cows and potential cannon fodder for their hobby wars. They have declared war on us, and we had better wake up to that fact!

There was a time I would have viewed someone expressing such thoughts as I've written both extreme and maybe crazy (The gaslighting that's been worked on us for so long has had its effects!), but now I've got to allow that paradigm to go ahead and shift, because, reality doesn't give a rat's hind quarters what I think or feel about it!
