I suppose I am a bit biased but the recent action of NCSU to remove Dixie from their anthem reaffirms to me the value in the name Dixie. This is part of a recent trend. First, Dolly Parton decided to drop the Dixie from Dixie Stampede. Then the Dixie Chicks decided to rename as The Chicks. It seems the Lefties have some aversion to the name Dixie. This is particularly revealing in the case of NCSU who replaced "Dixie" with "Southern." Why do they choke on Dixie, but swallow Southern just fine? I think it is because they know that Dixie is our word, that it has life in it, that Dixie has some potency that the South does not. The South is a territorial possession of the United States, but Dixie is a country, a culture and a people. They killed the Confederacy, leaving a raped and mutilated corpse called The South and a pristine ghost called Dixie. Dixie never got “reconstructed” after the Second American Revolution (ARII) - only the South did. Dixie is yet unslain, unravaged, unconquered and unseduced and they know it. Dixie is everything that the South is not. The South is defeated, humiliated and broken. But Dixie is unbroken. She holds her chin up and has that look in her eye that gloats with inward assurance of her own dignity and superiority. Unfit men “reject” her because they cannot have her. At the time of this writing I also see a politically motivated social media surge in spelling Kiev as Kyiv in support of Ukraine. The power of those two letters is incalculable, just like where to put the apostrophe when you make United States possessive ("United State’s" vs "United States’"). The symbolic value of where to put that small mark is no small matter. This surrender of the word Dixie is quite attractive to me and I hope it is attractive to everyone else here. I am not aware of any other time when our enemies surrendered a word to us. The battle over language, the power to define what a word means and use it as you will, is just as real as Gettysburg. The enemy has surrendered this turf rather than contest it. I hope every Leftist institution follows suit. While they are tightening their grip on failing institutions, they simultaneously surrender to us the name Dixie. The South is conquered but Dixie is not. Let us make the most of it.
